What is therapy like for children?
A good therapeutic relationship is important to the success of therapy, especially for children. It is important for your child to feel comfortable with his or her therapist. At Hope Speaks, we strive to create a safe space for your child to feel heard and understood.
When you call our office, you will be referred to a therapist who has specialized training in working with children. This training may include the use of play therapy, talk therapy, and psycho-educational activities.
I’m afraid that my child or tween won’t talk. How can you help?
It is true that most kids find it difficult to talk about their feelings in a direct way until they have reached a certain age. We incorporate expressive play and art in our sessions because children can naturally express their inner world through their imagination.
How can I be involved in my child’s therapy process?
Parental engagement is encouraged in our work with children. During the first session, the therapist will meet with parents/guardians for 10-15 minutes to discuss any concerns. We engage parents by coordinating family sessions when needed and with the consent of your child if they are older. Our goal is to ensure that your child will trust the therapeutic relationship.
